First Impressions - Wolverine and the X-Men

Marvel Comics is on a roll again. After the releases of the blockbuster movie Iron Man and a better-received incarnation of the Incredible Hulk earlier this year, 2009 is shaping up to be another good year. The buzz over the just released trailer for next spring’s X-Men Origins Wolverine (currently attached to The Day the Earth Stood Still film) has been extremely positive. But Marvel’s recent success isn’t limited to the big screen. The Spectacular Spider-Man and the upcoming Iron Man: Armored Adventures are aimed at the next generation of Marvel fans. The upcoming Black Panther series on BET looks promising.

Meanwhile, the X-Men will return for their third television series in January. Wolverine and the X-Men looks to take its cues from the original comics and the movie trilogy. From the trailers I’ve seen the series looks like an improvement over the 2000-2003 X-Men Evolution series. When Professor X is taken from his students, the X-Men disband. Mutants continue to live in fear and are hunted by the government. A dark vision of the future convinces Wolverine that the X-Men must regroup to prevent it. For longtime X-Men fans, it’s a new take on the Days of Future Past storyline.

Check out the official trailer of the series at Marvel YouTube site.  A more story based trailer is available at Slash Film.
